Braces for Adults Over 30: Is It Too Late, and Which Type Suits You?

In short: Adults can have braces, and age is not a barrier. Your dentist looks at the health of your gums and supporting bone. Because adult bone has stopped growing, teeth may move more slowly and some cases need extractions or surgery. Working adults who want a discreet option often choose Invisalign (removable) or Brava (fitted behind the teeth).

Is there an age limit for braces?

No. If your gums and supporting bone are healthy enough, adults of any age can have braces. A dentist will always examine you and take X-rays first.

How long does adult treatment take?

It depends more on how complex your case is than on your age. As a guide from the clinic: metal braces about 2–3 years, Invisalign about 6 months to 2 years (small i7 cases average 3.5 months), Brava an average of 6–18 months, and clear aligners about 6–12 months.

Which type should a working adult choose?

Ask yourself three questions: do you mind people seeing the appliance, can you wear trays 20–22 hours a day, and what is your budget?

How will braces affect work and daily life?

  • Speaking and meetings: aligners may feel slightly awkward at first, and most people adapt. Brava is behind the teeth, so it is not seen when you talk.
  • Appointments: Invisalign and Damon visits are about every 6–8 weeks, and metal braces monthly. Both branches are open daily 10:30–19:30, so you can book after work or at weekends.
  • Eating out: remove aligners before eating, and brush before putting them back.

Can I have braces with receding gums, missing teeth or crowns?

Many cases can be treated, but gums need to be assessed and treated first. Crowned teeth can often be moved. For missing teeth, your dentist may plan braces together with dental implants.

My teeth shifted after braces as a child. Can I redo them?

Yes. This is a second round of braces. ADA second-round aligners start at THB 39,900, and minor relapse may be treated with clear aligners.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get braces at 40?

Yes, if your gums and supporting bone are healthy enough. A dentist will examine you and take X-rays before recommending a plan.

Do adults take longer than children?

Possibly in some cases, because bone has stopped growing and there may be other issues. Actual time depends mainly on how complex your case is.

Which braces are not visible?

Brava is fitted behind the teeth, so it is not visible from the front and is not removable. Invisalign uses clear trays that are hard to notice and are worn 20–22 hours a day.

Do braces hurt more for adults?

It varies from person to person. After an adjustment or a new tray, you may feel tight or sore for 2–3 days.

Do I need to take time off work?

Usually not. Appointments are short, and the clinic is open daily until 19:30.
