Making the first visit easy

- Praise your child afterwards
Preventing decay at home

- Help children brush until they can do it well, usually around age 7–8
- Limit sweet snacks and drinks between meals
- Avoid putting a child to sleep with a milk bottle
Why see a children’s dentist?
A children’s dentist (pedodontist) looks after new teeth, helps prevent future problems and gives care advice for your child’s age. Good early experiences also help children feel positive about dental visits.
Children’s dentists are trained specifically in caring for children’s teeth and use techniques that help children feel at ease, such as a relaxed atmosphere that reduces fear.
We recommend the first visit when the first tooth appears, or by age 1 at the latest.
If your child had a bad experience before
- Listen to your child’s fears without rushing to correct them
- Choose a clinic with a warm, child-friendly atmosphere
- Start again slowly: a visit just to get to know the dentist, with no treatment
- Talk about dental care in a positive, relaxed way

Frequently asked questions
When should my child first see a dentist?
When the first tooth appears, or by age 1 at the latest.
How often should children see a dentist?
Every 6 months, to check oral health, prevent decay and follow tooth development.
Should a decayed baby tooth be filled or removed?
Baby teeth matter for speech, chewing and the alignment of adult teeth. If it can be filled, keeping the tooth is better than removing it early.

THB 700–800 per surface. Fluoride with polishing is THB 800 (varnish THB 1,000).
My child is afraid of the dentist. What can I do?
Talk about the dentist positively, use books or cartoons, visit the clinic beforehand to get familiar, and offer praise afterwards.
